Why We Use a Multi-Channel Approach

in Our Individualized Instruction:

There are three main ways in which each of us learns:

  1. By hearing information
  2. By seeing information
  3. By associating information with a particular motor skill or set of movements, that is, by doing.

Although we learn through all three of these senses, some of us use one or more senses which dominate the others. How about you? Do you learn best by hearing, seeing, or doing?

Because we use a multi-channel approach to learning, we determine each client's preffered style of learning. We assess skills in listening, seeing and/or doing as the first step in our program.

For example, if a client learns best by seeing, we will design office goals and a home program which is enhanced by pictures, drawings, diagrams, and othervisual aids, because this is the best way to deliverinformationand ideasto a visual person. By using a multi-channel approach, we reach each cliemt in the way in which he or she can best recieve, understand, and retain information.
